"Bath tub" strainers also called T-Type Strainers are a good alternative to other cast strainers. They are available from 2" (DN50) to 12" (DN300) as standard. For special specifications the T-Type Strainer can be maufactured up to 48" (DN1200), with a pressure rate up to 2500 LB according to ASME B16.5. Also special materials are available.
The butt welds allow a very stable connection to the pipe. The strainer is available with flanges as well. The screen has a V-design. For a lower pressure loss the filter area can be increased with a W-design.
Very often T-Type Strainers will be used during start up or after revision. After the cleaning process the sieve will be taken off and the strainer body will remain in the pipe. The bath tub strainer has a big advantage in comperison to temporary strainers since the pipe must not be opend when the screen has been retrieved from the pipe.
